GuidesThe metal
Gold, silver, and rose gold
How the three finishes differ on skin, and what our lockets are actually made of.
What the finish is
Locket Company lockets are stainless steel with a gold, silver, or rose gold finish. They are not solid hallmarked gold or sterling silver. The color you see is the finish. Said plainly, that is what lets a locket be worn every day without the price or the softness of solid gold.
Treat the finish as a surface. It will dull if it is scratched against other jewelry, or soaked in perfume. It is not a coating you can ignore.
Yellow gold
Yellow gold is the warmest of the three and the one that reads as jewelry from a distance. It suits darker hair and warmer skin, and it holds its own next to other gold. It is the usual choice when the locket should look like a gift the moment the box opens.
Silver
Silver is the everyday metal. It disappears into a wardrobe of silver earrings and watches, and it looks lighter, which suits a smaller heart. It is also the easiest to pair with a photograph: the cool rim does not compete with skin tones in the picture.
Rose gold
Rose gold sits between the other two. It is softer in photographs and against skin, and it is the finish on the heart with angel wings. People choose it when yellow gold feels too bright and silver feels too cool. It marks more easily than it looks, because the color is delicate. A soft cloth, and no perfume on the chain, keeps it.
